6 Neighborhoods to explore in Edinburgh
The two areas of Edinburgh where visitors spend most of their time are the Old Town and the New Town, but there are many other interesting neighbourhoods around the city too.
Old Town
The Old Town is where Edinburgh has its origins, and where some of the most historic and important buildings in the city are located.
New Town
The New Town was designed in a Neo-Classical style, and was built during the 18th century, the Enlightenment period, as a residential area for the academics and bourgeoisie.
Leith
Leith was a separate burgh for many centuries, but served as the main port of Edinburgh. It is now a dynamic, exciting neighbourhood.
Stockbridge
Stockbridge still feels very much like the village it once was, with a bohemian style to its streets. This is still considered one of the most artistic parts of the city.
West End
The West End is well known for its numerous arts venues, including cinemas, theatres, and concert halls, as well as having plenty of popular restaurants and bars.
Southside
The South Side is mainly a residential district, but also has many independent shops and restaurants.
